Whakatu was Everards new beer for 2011.
Brewed using Nelson Sauvin Hops this light golden ale has a crisp, dry bitter taste. The name ‘Whakatu’ derives from the Maori name for ‘Nelson’ where the Nelson Sauvin hops originate. With hints of gooseberry and kiwi, Whakatu is a delightful zest of crisp fruit flavours.
The Maori's traditionally create intricate designs built using tiny coloured beads. We mimicked this method of construction alongside elements from Maori facial decoration to create the Whakatu pump clip.
To compliment the production of the pump clip Birdhouse produced various marketing items to promote the new ale to Everard's pubs.
